How to Observe MLK Day in Montgomery This Year

March in the Parade Downtown

Line up for the parade at 11 AM at Troy’s downtown Montgomery campus. I know Montgomery Pride United will be there, and you know they’ll let you march with them.

Finally Visit the Civil Rights Memorial (it’s free for MLK Day!)

The Memorial for Peace and Justice will have free admission in observance of MLK Day, so there’s really no excuse for you to keep putting it off.

Write a Letter with 1977 Books

The good people at 1977 Books (located in the Kress building) will be writing letters to incarcerated people, and invite you to help them reach their goal of 100 letters. They’ll supply the materials – you just show up.

Eat a Hot Dog & Have a Day of Service with HandsOn

HandsOn River Region, the good people that coordinate volunteers en masse to local causes and non-profits, are meeting at That’s My Dog Jr. for a hot dog lunch at noon before dispatching volunteers to local projects.

Watch Just Mercy at the Capri

Just Mercy, the new movie filmed in Montgomery last year, is showing at the Capri at 7:30 PM. It follows the true civil rights journey of Bryan Stevenson in his pursuit of justice in our beloved town.
